AGE-LESS: The Value of Age – In dialogue with the exhibition «The End of Aging»

What does a possible future look like when our age no longer plays a role, or only a secondary one? Cell biologist Laura Suter-Dick, psychologist Rui Mata and philosopher Andreas Brenner will join Michael Schindhelm to discuss whether the end of aging is already in the process of becoming a reality. The event takes place in collaboration with the University of Basel and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland and is part of the public program of the upcoming exhibition 'The End of Aging' at the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger | KBH.G. The talk will be held in German and participation is free of charge.

Artist Talk Age-less: Forever young?

Tune in when Michael Schindhelm and KBH.G director Raphael Suter explore themes of the upcoming exhibition 'The End of Aging' as well as inputs on what it entails to come back to Basel, years later. What happens when age becomes only a number, what makes Basel so special to both the exhibition and to Michael Schindhelm; these and many other questions will be explored in the talk, possibly offering an answer to the question; who wants to live forever and does Basel hold the secret to doing so? TREE CONNECTIONS

OVERVIEW

A cultural history of nature may sound like a paradox, but a second glance proves it to be a clever theme. For though we are used to perceiving nature and culture as opposites, they are actually closely interwoven. This is precisely what Klaus Littman shows us in his startling project Tree Connections. In 2019, around three hundred trees were planted in the pitch at the Wörthersee football stadium in Klagenfurt. The result is the extraordinary experience of witnessing a confrontation between two otherwise strictly separate kinds of spaces. Blending the natural and the constructed worlds blurs their boundaries, making them practically indistinguishable. At the same time, the breathtaking views of this unique project offer fascinating insights into our current, unecological ideas and activities. An exhibition curated by Littmann will take place at the Basel H. Geiger Kulturstiftung starting in May 2021, featuring works by Alexandre Calame, Joseph Beuys, Christo, Jannis Kounellis, Giuseppe Penone, Günther Uecker, Tony Cragg, Michael Sailstorfer, Miriam Cahn, and Sol LeWitt, among others.
