Experimental Ecology
Art and Science in Dialogue

In the spirit of the famous E.A.T. – Experiments in Art and Technology, an initiative launched in 1967 pairing artists with engineers, thus enabling a new sense of exchange, the project Experimental Ecology offers a contemporary platform for collaborations between artists and scientists in the field of ecology. Five teams will develop novel ways to re-think our impact on the biosphere. The encounters and the resulting ideas will be presented in a symposium with workshops, an exhibition, and a book to spearhead new ways to understand our relationship with our environment.

With: Christina Agapakis (Synthetic Biologist, Gingko Bioworks, Boston), Alex Jordan (Biologist, Behavioural Evolution Research Group, Max Planck Institute, Konstanz), Michelle-Marie Letelier (Artist, Berlin), Ingo Niermann (Writer, artist, Basel), Karin Pittman (Biologist, Professor of Marine Biology, University of Bergen), Matthias Rillig (Biologist, Institute of Biology, FU Berlin), Riikka Tauriainen (Artist, Zurich), Sissel Tolaas (Artist and smell researcher, Berlin), Meike Vogt (Biochemist, Department of Environmental Systems Science, ETH Zurich), Zheng Bo (Artist, Hong Kong).

The exhibition is curated by Martina Huber and Gianni Jetzer.

The symposium Experimental Ecology: 5 Scientists | 5 Artists will take place in Basel from October 28-29. More information can be found on the exhibition's website: www.experimentalecology.art/
